LUPC has recently awarded a framework agreement to ten suppliers for debt collection services. There are five debt recovery firms authorised by the FCA and five legal recovery firms authorised by the SRA to collect regulated and non-regulated debts. You can find more information here

To launch this framework LUPC have organised a free day of hot topics and training to build CPD hours for those that are required to do so for CIMA, ACCA or CIPS. All the suppliers will be there to share their industry knowledge with the objective of supporting the sector and improving their processes. For example, have you updated your procedures since the Pre Action Protocols of 2017?

The sessions on the day will cover:

  •  The Evolution of debt collection in the HE sector
  • Pre-action-protocol October 2017 – A year on
  • Outside Jurisdiction debts – Practical strategies for effective recoveries
  • Student mental health risks

There will also be roundtable debates on:

  • What to do if a student identifies as Vulnerable/suffering from mental ill health
  • To pursue or not through Legal Recoveries
  • Compliance requirements of the Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) in relation to the student contract for tuition (Currently and is this likely to change?)
  • Having a student wellbeing policy that isn’t followed or not having one at all? (What is worse? - a legal liability discussion)
  • Debt data between HE/debt agents’/tracing agents/legal firms GDPR?
  • What is the most effective collection route or strategy?
